User Reviews about Timex Ironman Men's Race Trainer Heart Rate Monitor Watch - Black Grey - Full Size
As all the reviews state, this watch/HR chest strap are superior to Polar's simply because you can do the battery replacement yourself. All the features are intuitive on the watch and it has a number of ways to monitor your workout sessions. The biggest drawback is the watch band. It is NOT replaceable. It doesn't have the pins on the top and bottom that are interchangeable with another band type. It is molded as one piece and if the strap wears out, your out a $80 plus watch. I really enjoyed using it for 1 yr and 8 months before the strap on one end broke. I am trying to see if replacing the watch band at Timex is worth it or not. They won't quote any prices so you have to send it in and see. I will update when I find out more. -- Great except for one thing
I've had at least 4 polar hr monitors and they are pretty good regarding accuracy, but something always seems to go wrong with them. Either a seal breaks and water gets in, or the hr jumps from normal to 225 in an instant.....etc. This watch is awesome and picks up on the hr quickly and remains constant. It has all of the basics needed for tri training. Great for doing laps in the pool and keeping time. Chest strap comfortable. Very user friendly and a great value for the money! I hope this timex will keep on ticking for a long time. I love this thing. -- Awesome watch/hear rate monitor
This heart rate monitor has worked great for me while getting back into my Cardio/Weight training routine. I started getting back into my training routine without the monitor and sometimes felt like I might have been over doing it. The first day I used the monitor I realized I was right and was able to adjust my routine appropriately. The only complaint I have is that there are a lot of features to the watch so it was a little hard to get used to at first. To me this is a minor thing which did not take away from the functionality or worth of the monitor. -- Great for training purposes!
I bought this watch to replace my Polar F11. The Polar lasted for about 2 1/2 years but didn't survive my attempt to change the battery. This was the biggest reason I didn't go with Polar again. I think it's ridiculous to have to send the watch away every couple years and spend $30-$50 to replace a battery. My fault. I should have been more careful.
I like this Timex because it looks like a watch you can wear outside of the gym and it gives all of the basic heart rate functionality you need. It gives max hr, avg hr, min hr, time in zone and total calories burned. Also, I'm a big guy (chest = 52 inches) and the heart monitor strap fit me with room to spare. Some of the other timex watches I read reviews for said this was a problem.
The only two things to keep in mind with this watch is that the calorie calculation is way off. I had to adjust my weight to 62% of my actual weight to make the calorie calc match with what my Polar was giving me. No calorie calc from a watch will be perfect but my old watch seemed close.
The other thing to keep in mind is that you can review the heart rate statistics while you work out by going to the Review screen. I didn't realize that the work out information was dynamic on this screen when I first started using the watch. -- Great replacement for my Polar F11
